Women candidates fail in Kuwaiti voting

This Kuwait election was scantily covered in US media. The women candidates all lost of course, but the most amazing thing is that there were woman candidates at all, and that women were allowed to vote for the first time in the countrys history.

And it all went off pretty cleanly without any terrorist attacks.

Now, the question of what happens next is preoccupying voters and analysts, with the likelihood of some serious political battles ahead.

Professor Ghanim Al Najjar of Kuwait University's political science department, says the results show a major shift in Kuwaiti politics.
