If the Russians had any sense at all they would cede the land over to the non-slavic peoples. The demographics are going to put Russia at a 50% Muslim country by 2050 if they don't get their act together soon, and they show no signs of doing that. Besides, most of these peoples were conquered during the days of the tsar, and it's time to let them go.
