The new owners of the mammoth Howe Caverns, which changed hands this week for $3.7 million, are planning an extravagant facelift to shore up its reputation as one of New York's most-popular natural attractions.
Wright-Galasso Inc. expects to invest $2 million in the next two years to improve cave lighting and renovate a gift shop, entrance road and the historic Cave House Hotel. I remember going into Howe with parents at age seven. I didn't like it. When tour guides turned off the lights to demonstrate "primeval silence and darkness," they got darkness, but not silence.

A couple of decades later I enjoyed Wind Cave and Carlsbad without a qualm.

Yea...most people have never actually experienced complete 100% total darkness Alan. On the surface, there's almost always some residual light from something. Stars, an LED glowing somewhere in the house, etc.
