I remember a story of something like 40 leading romans getting head from her. Makes you wonder if they had any motivation from that besides the obvious bragging right back in the day of being serviced by a queen...

The fact that Cleopatra was no beauty has been known for decades. Even shows on the history channel from years ago mention Cleopatra's face on the coins. I don't know what the sudden surge of interest from the MSM in this detail is.

Cleopatra was no beauty, but given that, she must have been exceptionally clever and charming to win both Julius Caesar and Marc Antony to her side. Another thing to keep in mind about the legend of Cleopatra: it is thought that a lot of the negative rumors you hear about Cleopatra were spread by Cleopatra's and Antony's mutual rival, Octavian (later Augustus), in an attempt to discredit both of them and gain support from the Roman public in the feud between the two parties.
